Guidelines
for Writing APA Citations:
Goal of citations:
-
To identify a source of data or information.
-
To provide the information needed to find the original
source of the data or information used in a research paper.
You must write a citation to a source when you:
-
Use a direct quotation.
-
Paraphrase or summarize information from your source
using your own words.
There are two parts to a citation:
1) The in-text
citation—this is a short citation which refers your reader to
the reference list entry.
2) The reference list
entry which contains the complete citation information to your
source.
