1)      Student Group Meeting Dates –Ask your advisor & let PR know!

·       You are invited to join Campus Ministry Club (CMC). We have weekly meetings for spring semester on Wednesdays @ 10AM in the upper pit of Herrold Hall (next to the library). We will be planning a Christian concert in April.  Also like us on Facebook for updates.

·       The Coms Club next meeting will be Wednesday, February 6, outside of Dr. Rita Ng's office (Elson room 111) at 2PM. We will be working on the Communication Studies bulletin board.

·       FEOUZ general membership meeting will be held on Thursday February 7, 2013 at 3:30pm in Elson 177. All current members of FEOUZ and prospective members are invited.

 

2)      Support OU Zanesville Tracer Basketball

On Saturday the Lady Tracers lost to Miami Hamilton 73-46. The Harriers from Hamilton are a perfect 12- 0 in the ORCC and number one seed in the upcoming State Tournament. The Lady Tracers were lead by Alisha Drake's 20 points and 5 rebounds. The Men’s team lost 86-58 to the number 3 tournament seed Hamilton men and were led by Nate Stewarts 19 points and Winston Turner’s 12.

 

Ohio University Zanesville Tracer Basketball teams take the court at Littick Hall Gym on 2/5 against OSU Newark. The men play at 5:30p and the womens’ team tips off at 7:30p. Admission is $5 per person -- Ohio University Zanesville and Zane State students’ FREE admission with student ID.

 

3)      Want Winter Weather & Emergency Alerts?

4)      Paid Internships through Southeastern Ohio Port Authority Available

Interested in a paid internship? If you are a science, engineering, computer science or mathematics major you may be eligible for a paid internship of up to $6000. Must be a sophomore, junior or senior enrolled at an Ohio 4-yr institution or a second year student at a community or technical college and have a GPA of 2.5 or higher. 5)      Biology Lab Assistant Sought

Are you interest in Biology and Biomedical research? Are you well organized with some background in Biology/Chemistry? If so, you may be the right candidate for the biology lab assistant and work up to 20 hrs  per week in a lab. Contact Dr. Higazi at higazi@ohio.edu for consideration.

 

6)      Support Student Groups

·       Future Educators of OU Zanesville (FEOUZ)

Scholastic Book Club is now set up for faculty, staff and students at OUZ.  You are able to order fabulous books for children ages preschool through 9th grade.  Flyers are available at the FEOUZ bulletin board, and also online.  If you have any questions, contact Addy Ruby at ar516311@ohio.edu.

·       Habitat for Humanity’s Discount Card Fundraiser

OU Zanesville's Habitat for Humanity members are selling discount cards through Friday February 22.  Profits go toward a Community Service Project, the Collegiate Challenge trip. These cards are $10.00 each and offer discounts including but not limited to:

 

Dunham's Sports, Eaglesticks, Donato's Pizza, The Barn, Dairy Queen, Auntie Anne's Pretzels, and many more!

·       The COMS Club Happy Hour

Please mark your calendar for the COMS Club Happy Hour on Wednesday, February 20.  Donald donuts and bagels will be provided and guitar music may be on hand.  COMS majors, COMS minors, any students who are undecided of your major or minor are welcome!  Because we realize schedules are busy, please help us out by emailing Hillary Moran at hm392409@ohio.edu with times you would be available on February 20 by February 11 so we can spread the word.  Thank you!

 

7)      Research & Creativity Fair Registration Now Open!

Students must enroll online at www.ohio.edu/studentexpo  to participate. Registration closes Feb. 24.

 

This year's event will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursday, April 11, at the Convocation Center. The annual event attracts more than 550 student presenters from dozens of disciplines. More than 2,000 students, faculty, staff, community members and local middle school and high school students attend to learn more about how Ohio University students are engaged in research, scholarship and creative activity.

 

Who can participate? Participation is open to all undergraduate, graduate and medical students, as well as postdoctoral fellows, on the Athens and regional campuses.

 

What can be presented? Posters, exhibits, performances, film screenings and other presentation formats are welcome.

 

Are students eligible for awards? Awards will be given for the best presentations in each category: $200 (1st prize) and $100 (2nd prize). Categories are limited to no more than 12 presentations and assigned by discipline. For sessions with undergraduate and post-degree students, judges may elect to give two 1st prizes (one each for an undergraduate and a post-degree student).  In this case a 2nd place prize will not be awarded.  In addition, several sponsors will offer special award categories this year.

 

Who sponsors the event? The Student Expo is sponsored by the Office of the Vice President for Research and Creative Activity and Dean of the Graduate College, Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost, Office of the President and the University Libraries.

 

8)       Student ID or current class schedule required to Visit the Fitness Center

The Fitness Center has had a change in policy, now to ensure campus safety and security. They will ask to see your student ID card EVERY time you use the Fitness Center.  If you have not received your student ID card we will ask you to print off a copy of your current class schedule and we keep it in a book at the main desk until you have your student ID card. If you do not have a student ID card or current class schedule, you can buy a day pass for 5 dollars or you will not be allowed to use the Fitness Center.

 

9)      Media Use survey, your feedback needed

Electronic Media 2890 students are learning about audience research and need your help! If you know teens (up to age 19) ask them to share their thoughts on media consumption. 10)   Muskingum Recreation Center Construction Update

The current activities scheduled include the following:

·       Installation of construction fence to the west of Littick Hall where the MRC construction has started.

·       Location of the construction trailer and materials lay down area the week of February 4.  The materials lay down area will be located at the previous tennis courts. Parking along the roadway will be restricted beginning on February 1st in this location and will continue to be restricted during the construction project.

·       Installation of a safety barrier wall along the west corridor that will block all access to existing Littick Hall locker rooms for the entirety of the construction project.  All persons with items stored in the Littick Hall locker rooms need to remove all personal items and locks by February 1 (TODAY).  Temporary lockers have been placed in the south hallway for use on a daily basis.

·       If you are unsure about the location of your class, please check with your instructor.

 

As with any large construction project, large equipment and supplies will be delivered to campus.  Our construction manager will make every effort to minimize the impact of these deliveries.
