Jumpstart Zanesville@ Ohio University-Zanesville
Jumpstart Zanesville, located at the
Ohio University-Zanesville campus, joined the Jumpstart
network in 2003 and has developed strong partnerships across
the Zanesville community. Jumpstart Zanesville is committed to
working with local community programs and businesses including
the Muskingum County Head Start, the Zane Trace Association for
the Education of Young Children, American Eagle Outfitters and
Dillon Elementary School. Our mission is to increase school success,
family involvement and future teachers….one child at a time. In 2005, Jumpstart-Zanesville launched a college course titled "Jumpstart for Young Children: A Service Learning Reflective Workshop." This interactive workshop combines community service with academic instruction in the areas of child development, early literacy and social skills, family involvement and civic responsibility. Ohio University-Zanesville students received 6 credits for participating in this year long course.
Upcoming Events Include: May Walk for Literacy- The community will be invited to Walk for Literacy to increase the awareness of the importance of early reading. Literacy activities for children and families as well as local community resources and entertainment will set the tone for a fun, educational event.
