Ohio University-Zanesville professors co-author audio production textbook

Ken Collins Rick Shriver

Two Ohio University-Zanesville professors, Ken Collins and Rick Shriver, realize the importance of collaboration and networking in producing scholarly work. Dr. Collins, talked with Dr. Drew McDaniel, professor of telecommunications in the Center for International Studies at Ohio University about the possibility of creating a text on the subject of audio production. Shriver, made a connection with an editor for Allyn and Bacon Publishing while attending a conference. These contacts came full circle to create a textbook entitled Fundamentals of Audio Production.

The writing team’s professional specialization and experience ensures the text provides a complete overview of the field of audio production.  Topics devoted to the specifics of recording studio, radio, audio for video, post production, field production and live sound reinforcement are included in the 307-page textbook.

Shriver’s photography and graphic design as well as research on the latest developments in music recording and music video industries ensure the text reflects current practices in the industry.  The accompanying CD-ROM, also developed by the authors, contains audio editing software, examples of various audio phenomena, exercises for students, a glossary, and links to web resources to enhance the student learning experience.

Published by Allyn and Bacon, Fundamentals of Audio Production is designed to be an introductory textbook, but it will have long-lived reference value to students and beginning professionals in the field.  For more information about the subject contact Collins at 740-588-1475 or via email at collinsk@ohio.edu or Shriver at 740-588-1455 or shriver@ohio.edu.
