Ohio University-Zanesville Communication Students Host Financial Awareness Conference

Zanesville, OH – Ohio University – Zanesville Communication students hosted “Show Me the Money” in cooperation with communication majors from the other regional campuses. Experts on each of the regional campuses joined together with the Communication’s Meeting and Conference Planning Class to educate students about financial issues that impact them while completing their education.

The event was held via the Ohio University Learning Network which allowed each campus to provide a speaker and provide a question and answer session in which all students from all the regional campuses could participate.  The system offers two-way real-time interactive audio and video. Using the interactive technology, nearly 150 students from the five campuses attended the conference. “With enrollment costs going up and students going further into debt, students need to be more aware of what their options are to make money,” explains Tony Mayle, one of the conference organizers.

As part of their hands-on education, students in the Meeting and Conference Planning class planned and executed the event.  They arranged for speakers, advertised, put together conference packets, and obtained donations for door prizes for the conference. . ”This class has given me the opportunity to help students and improve my planning skills for the future, says Communication student and class team leader,“ Tony Mayle.

Communications 405 Meeting and Conference Planning will be offered on the Zanesville campus Spring and Fall terms 2005.  The course covers theoretical and methodological approaches to principles of group and conference leadership. Students will learn leadership skills as they apply to group and conference situations. The course is offered as part of the Organizational Communication or Health Communication bachelor degree programs offered at the Zanesville campus.
