“With each new test, each new state requirement, and dwindling resources at your disposal, it’s become even more difficult for you to handle the level of responsibility and expectations placed on you,” Kathy Cain, director of diversity programs for Ohio University, told guests at the Eleventh Annual Educators’ Luncheon held at Ohio University-Zanesville recently.

Cain went on to commend educators, superintendents, counselors and other who attended the luncheon for their hard work and perseverance and their commitment to preparing students for future success. “I want to encourage you to continue to move forward.  Your work is not in vain,” she said. “As Henry Adams once said, ‘A teacher affects eternity: he or she can never tell where his or her influence stops.”

The luncheon, hosted each year by Ohio University-Zanesville, pays tribute to those who work with high school students to help them determine what to do after leaving high school. The event is designed as an informal professional development opportunity for high school administrators. Guests benefit from the keynote speaker as well as hearing about the exciting things happening at Ohio University-Zanesville.

In addition to Cain’s presentation entitled “Teaching Tolerance and Promoting Cross-Cultural Understanding in our Schools,” Dr. Donna L. Clevinger, associate dean, shared information about the upcoming Visual and Performing Summer Arts Honor Institute.

Assistant Dean for Development Cindy Linn addressed the audience with an update on the new building addition that joins Elson and Herrold Halls. She announced there would be a celebration held this fall to recognize donors who are supporting the scholarships associated with naming space in the new area.

The highlight of the event was awarding he annual Superintendent’s Scholarship. This year’s winner of the scholarship, which will be awarded to a senior from that high school, was Sheridan High School in Thornville, represented by Larry Davis and Rick Caldwell.
