OU Zanesville’s Giannandrea publishes international resource

Beatrice Giannandrea, assistant professor of Spanish at Ohio University-Zanesville recently published Literatura y pintura en el costumbrismo argentino, siglo XIX.. Ecfrasis.

The book, which features photos and text in English and Spanish, explores the world of “Costumbrismo” in the Rio de la Plata region (South America) through the eyes of 19thCentury European travelers, writers and painters. Costumbrismo is a writing genre that features descriptions of the customs and usages common from the mid 1800s through the end of the 19th century in Spain and Latin America.

Giannandrea’s doctoral thesis centered on this topic and as a result VDM Verlag Dr. Müller, of Germany, invited her to publish her scholarship work as a book. The work contributes to practical research and reference on the subject for others interested in the customs of the time as well as the art and language expression of the Rio de la Plata region. Those interested in purchasing the book may do so through Amazon.com.

Giannandrea joined Ohio University-Zanesville in 2006, and teaches a wide variety of Spanish language and culture courses necessary for students in a variety of program areas as well as the complete minor in Spanish at the Zanesville campus. Her ongoing research and related publications enhances undergraduate learning by providing students with mentoring beyond the typical classroom language class.
