The Health Literacy: Helping Patients Understand conference, held at Ohio University-Zanesville, was sponsored by Appalachia Reads, the American Cancer Society and the University. The purpose of the conference was to inform participants about cultural characteristics of Appalachian people, identify literacy concerns related to patient-provider communications in health care, and to become familiar with sources for accessing up-to-date information regarding health literacy.
