Ohio University-Zanesville Professor Visits India without Leaving Ohio

Dr. Pramod Kanwar, associate professor of mathematics at Ohio University-Zanesville, was able to visit his home country of India without leaving Ohio when he attended the "Let's Take a Trip to India" event at held at Caldwell Elementary.
"We invite everyone to come visit the display through Thursday," says Tracy Binegar, art teacher at Caldwell Elementary. The students from kindergarten through eighth grade explored the history of Indian art through many different mediums and procedures. The students learned about Mendhi hand drawings, pottery, jewelry, and more. With the help of their teachers Joyce Fogle and Tracy Binegar, have transformed two classrooms and a hallway into a tribute to India.
"A better understanding and appreciation for Indian art has been established by participating in studio activities and discussions including guest speakers, yoga sessions, slide shows, and cross curriculum efforts," explains Fogle.
“Namaste,” say the students as guests leave the display. This is their way of showing respect to the visitors. They explain that namaste translates to ‘my inner light salutes your inner light.’
"The students did a great job illustrating the Indian culture," said Kanwar. "They showed the various religions and even have samples of Indian artifacts. They really did a good job." Others are encouraged to visit the display now through February 23 during school hours.
"We will be studying India throughout the year," says Binegar. "so we invite anyone who is interested to come talk with the children." If you are interested in helping enhance the Indian experience for the students at Caldwell Elementary you may contact Binegar at tb001@marietta.edu.
