OHIO UNIVERSITY-ZANESVILLE STUDENTS RECOGNIZED FOR OUTSTANDING ESSAYS

ZANESVILLE – To pay tribute to Marye Keslar, a past assistant professor of English at Ohio University-Zanesville, the English Department established an essay contest named in her honor. The winners of the Marye Keslar Award were selected by the English professors at the University. The essays were judged on the students’ extraordinary critical thinking, command of the medium of writing and their ability to offer arguments that are surprising and supported with sufficient evidence to be convincing.

The winners of this year¹s Marye Keslar Award are First Place: Tony Stoepfel, ³ŒWhat¹s a Body but a Toy?¹ Reflections of the Body in Langston Hughes¹s ŒMulatto¹²; Second Place: Martha Broom-Barxias, ³The Secular Dilemma in France² and Third Place: Donovan Small, ³The Little Red Monkey² .“All of the submissions for this year¹s award were superb,” says Assistant Professor Stefan Jurasinski, “and determining the winners was difficult.”
