Under the direction of advisor Dr. Sheida Shirvani, six new members have been inducted into Omicron Alpha, the Ohio University-Zanesville chapter of Lambda Pi Eta, the official communication studies honor society of the National Communication Association (NCA). Inductees include Nashport resident Shawn Crist; Kathleen Dobbins of Beverly; Brandi Engle from Stockport; Ashley Minosky of Norwich; and Mandi Robb and Lisa Waite of Zanesville. All of these members excelled academically and socially, meeting all OA requirements. Current officers are Tony Mayle of Chesterhill, President and Kris Zemba of Nashport, Vice President.

Omicron Alpha stimulates interest in the Communication Studies program on campus, recognizes and rewards outstanding academic achievement in communications studies, and gets all students involved in service learning on campus. Omicron Alpha members have completed more than 100 hours of community service to the United Way, of Muskingum, Perry, and Morgan County and various other organizations.  In addition, Omicron Alpha teamed up with Ohio University-Zanesville Campus Student Senate to create awareness and support for Hurricane victims in Louisiana and Florida.  Other activities in which members of the organization participate include making presentations about Communication Studies to local high schools and participation in various conferences held on campus.
