Ohio University-Zanesville recently celebrated the success of nearly 300 local residents at its 2009 Recognition Night event. Students graduated with one of ten bachelor’s or five associate degrees in addition to others, which they started in Zanesville and finished at the main campus.
In addition to providing a world-renown University education to these residents, the faculty at Ohio University-Zanesville encouraged their students to become involved in research and other hands-on activities. As a result nine students were recognized during the event for their scholarly work throughout their college careers.
Aaron Hall of Zanesville, originally of Elyria, is the recipient of the 2009 Milman Linn Academic Achievement Award. Hall earned his bachelor’s degree in Middle Childhood Education with a focus on Mathematics and Social Studies.
Four students who will be relocating to Athens having started their college careers at the Zanesville campus, as many of local residents do, received Relocation Scholarships based on their academic achievements. Mikaila McDonald or Roseville will continue her education as a Biological Sciences Major; Katie McCarty from Adamsville will be completing her degree in Graphic Design; Jennifer Rittberger of Zanesville is working toward her goal of a degree in Exercise Physiology and James Ruyf of Somerset will be continuing his studies in Sports Management.
Outstanding students in specific program areas include Margaret Penotte of McConnelsville, Outstanding Business Administration Major; Jane Burns from Zanesville, Outstanding Specialized Studies Degree Major; Abigail Green, also of Zanesville, Outstanding Education Major and Sarah Shaw, of Mt Vernon, Outstanding Communication Studies in Organizational Communication Major.
Shaw
was also named Student Speaker for the class of 2009. She inspired students to
cherish the memories of their college days. Shaw, a non-traditional student, was
accepted into a Cultural Anthropology master’s degree program at Kent State
University.
Students at this year’s Recognition Night program were challenged to consider reflections as they move forward in the next journey of their lives, by Keynote Speaker, Dr. Michael Bullock, pastor at Hands of Faith Church.
