Ohio University-Zanesville’s Stein presents and publishes on classic comedians

 

Lisa Stein, Ph.D., having returned from Bologna, Italy where she presented “Sydney and Charlie Chaplin,” an introduction to three Charlie Chaplin films, continues her active involvement in the field with additional presentations and publications to her credit.

 

She will present Becoming America’s Sweethearts: John Fox, Jr.’s Appalachian Heroines as Portrayed by Mary Pickford and Mary Miles Minter,” which will feature excerpts from Pickford’s 1919 film, Heart o’ the Hills. The presentation will be part of the Women of Appalachia Conference at Ohio University-Zanesville, October 19 and 20.

 

In addition, Stein will present “A Genre’s Progenitor: Byron and the Modern Celebrity Travel Confessional” at the “Byron and Modernity” conference, sponsored by the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. Stein has also presented on silent film comedian Marion Davies.

 

In publication is her essay entitled, “Pantomime on the Page: The Verbalization of Chaplin’s Physical Comedy in My Road Trip Abroad and A Comedian Sees the World will appear in the fall issue of Studies in American Humor.
