Admission for Freshmen Students
Anyone who holds a high school diploma or has a GED certificate is eligible for admission to Ohio University Zanesville. The application process for beginning college students is listed below:
- Complete the online application. (There is an application fee of $20.00.)
- Request that your high school transcript be sent to Ohio University Zanesville or bring your GED certificate, complete with scores, to the Office of Student Services to be copied.
- Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) if you have not already done so for the current academic year. This form is available beginning in January of the year you wish to enroll in college. Visit Ohio University ’s Financial Aid web site at

- Submit ACT or SAT scores to Ohio University Zanesville if you are still in high school or have been out of high school for less than a year.
- Take COMPASS Placement Test. You can schedule your test only after you have applied for admission. Contact the Learning Advancement Center at
(740) 588-1510.
- The Office of Student Services will contact you regarding orientation dates and times after you have applied for admission. At orientation, you will meet with an academic advisor to plan your schedule and register for classes.
- Placement Testing. This is the COMPASS test for incoming students. The test does not have a time limit, but it normally takes 3 hours to complete. Taking this test will place you in classes for Math and English. You must make an appointment to take this test. Contact the LAC at

Admission for Transfer Students
If you have completed twelve hours of post-secondary education with at least a C average at an institution of higher learning, you are considered to be a transfer applicant at Ohio University – Zanesville. If you have completed fewer than 12 hours (8 semester hours), you will apply as a freshman applicant. The application process for transfer students is listed below:
- Complete the online application. (There is an application fee of $20.00.)
- Send official transcript(s) directly from all colleges and universities to the Office of Student Services. These transcripts will be evaluated to determine what courses will be accepted by Ohio University .
- Your high school transcript must also be sent directly to Ohio University Zanesville if you have taken less than 12 quarter hours (8 semester hours) of college-level work.
- Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) if you have not already done so for the current academic year. Visit Ohio University ’s Financial Aid web site at

- When your admit status is final, you will meet with an academic advisor to plan your schedule and register for classes.
Admission for Summer Only Students
As a regional campus, Ohio University Zanesville offers a wide assortment of courses at the undergraduate level. Summer is a great opportunity to pick up extra courses that apply to your major at another institution or to take that class you've always been interested in exploring. Just complete the summer only application and send it to the Office of Student Services, 1425 Newark Road, Zanesville, OH 43701.
Summer Courses are offered for one or two five-week sessions, for the full ten-week term or for shorter, intensive lengths such as one or two weeks.

Students must meet all course pre-requisites, in some instances, you may be required to submit an official transcript to verify that you have met all necessary requirements. So give yourself plenty of time to be sure you’re admitted and registered before your classes begin!
Course credit from Ohio University can generally be transferred to other institutions. The accepting institution, however, establishes the policy in this matter. Be sure to check with your home institution to be sure the courses you select will transfer.
Students who register for Summer Quarter between April 4 and May 15 must pay all fees on or before June 8, 2009, to avoid a $100 late fee. Billing notification will be e-mailed to student oak accounts starting Friday, May 15. Students who register after May 16 will be sent an e-bill on June 15 with payment due upon receipt. By registering for classes, a student incurs a legal obligation to pay tuition and fees. This debt may be cancelled only if the student officially cancels his/her registration BEFORE Monday, June 22 for first and full session classes and BEFORE Monday, July 27 for second session classes (the first day of classes for each session).

Registration at Ohio University, including the Zanesville Campus, is online

Students must have a four-digit Registration Access Code or RAC Number. This number,
along with additional registration information,
is sent to all current students each quarter (with other pertinent registration
information). New freshmen receive this number and their registration time
after they meet with their academic advisor.
