It is the mission of Ohio University - Zanesville to ensure equal
access and full participation in programs and services for all members
of our University community. It is our goal to create an educational
environment where individuals are considered on the basis of ability
rather than disability.
Each student is given attention on an individual basis to fit the
basic requirements that he/she needs to succeed. Ohio University -
Zanesville offers the following services for students with
disabilities.
Kurzweil Reader: An excellent multi-purpose
computer program that reads text to students that have difficulty
seeing, reading or pronouncing words. The spoken word is highlighted
on the computer screen during the reading so that the student can
follow along.
Note Takers: Students can have their class notes
recorded with help.
Lab Assistants: Students with little computer
experience or students who need assistance operating computers can see
a Lab Assistant.
Tutoring: Tutors are available to students that
need assistance with their coursework. (100-200 level courses only)
Interpreting Services: Service can be provided
based on student needs.
Test Accommodations: Instructors will be notified
in advance so that arrangements can be made during the course for
students with disabilities. Accommodations include allowing students
with disabilities extended testing time, use of a scribe, alternate
testing formats, and/or the use of a Word Processor.
Counseling: The Learning Advancement Center offers
counseling for students with disabilities.
Accessible Resources: The Ohio University -
Zanesville building is fully-accessible to students with mobility
impairments. Resources include ramps to the building,
wheelchair-accessible restroom facilities, automatic doors, and
elevators.
