In the Fall of 2006, OU Zanesville began offering counseling services to address the mental health needs of students and faculty/staff who have concerns about their students. These services will once again be offered on campus. The counseling office will be staffed by Keely J. Hope, Ph.D., NCC.  Dr. Hope is a post-doctoral fellow at Ohio University’s Counseling and Psychological Services.

Dr. Hope will be on campus on Wednesdays and Thursdays and will focus on education regarding mental health issues (i.e., depression, anxiety, stress management, etc.) and brief individual intervention with students.
Dr. Hope’s schedule is as follows: Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9 am – 3 pm.

Students may “drop-in” and talk with either counselor during these hours with or without an appointment. Keely is also available for outreach or educational programming upon request.

To contact Keely regarding a mental health issue or to request outreach or educational programming, you may call (740) 588-1517, or you may visit her in Elson Hall 106 during office hours.

If a student needs immediate mental health intervention, he or she may speak with Dr. Hope only when she is available on campus.  She will not be available for crisis, emergency, or individual counseling outside of the regularly scheduled days on campus.

A student who needs immediate attention should contact:

Liesta Walker: 740.588.1494
(for non-emergency, on-campus assistance during normal business hours)

Muskingum Counseling Center: 740.453.9766
(for information about community mental health resources during normal business hours)

Crisis Line: 800.344.5818 or 740.453.5818 (available 24/7)

An important clarification, however, about the role of the therapist at OU Zanesville is to emphasize that they will not be able to respond to crises or emergencies when they are not on campus. During days and times that the therapist is not on campus, students and faculty/staff concerned about an immediate need, such as in the case of one having thoughts or plans regarding harming oneself or someone else, may contact Muskingum Counseling Center at 740-453-9766 or their Crisis Line at 800-344-5818 or 740-453-5818.
Again, the therapist will not be available for crisis, emergency, or individual counseling outside of her regularly scheduled day on campus.
