On Saturday, the Tracers unleashed an
offensive outburst in sweeping the
Cougars of O.U.Lancaster 21-3 and
13-3 at Checkush field. Jim Hartmeyer won
the first game going the distance
recording five strikeouts. Derek Bragg had
two singles and a double, Nate
Stewart a single and double with Brandon
Smith, Caleb Bennett and Tyler Eppley
each hitting two singles to lead the
fourteen hit attack. In the
nightcap, pitchers Josh Davy and Nick Bolyard
combined to lead the victory from the
mound. Davy hit a three run homer in the
first inning to start the Tracers off
on a positive note. Stewart and Bragg
also hit homeruns, Smith and Eppley
each hit a double and Bolyard had two
singles to lead the second game
fourteen hit attack. OUZ goes to 4-1 in the
ORCC and 6-4 overall, while Lancaster
is 1-3 in the conference. The Tracers
return to home action on April 23
with an ORCC game with the OSU-Newark Titans
at 4:30 at Tom Checkush Field.
The diamond Tracers came up short on
Thursday in a 4-3 loss to OSU-Newark. The Tracers
trailed 4-1 in the seventh when they loaded the bases
with no outs.
They scored two runs highlighted by Jimmy
Hartmeyer's rbi single. A failed
squeeze bunt and a strikeout ended the
rally. The Tracers showed the signs of
their week off because of weather in
committing three errors and allowing the
Titans to score two unearned runs. OUZ
was led by Tyler Eppley's two singles.
Freshman Brandon Smith was the victim of
the fielding miscues as his record was evened at 2-2.
The Tracers are 2-1 in the ORCC'S Eastern division and
return to conference action on Saturday in a noon
doubleheader with OU Lancaster at Tom
Checkush field.
The diamond Tracers swept an ORCC
doubleheader with OSU-Lima Saturday 7-1 and
2-0. In the first game, Derek Bragg and Jimmy
Hartmeyer combined on a four
hitter as Nick Bolyard and Hartmeyer each had
two singles and Caleb Bennett
a single and a double and Josh Davy a double.
Each added two rbi's. In the
nightcap, Brandon Smith threw a complete game
four hitter as the Tracers played
good team defense to earn the victory in a
pitcher's duel. Steve Malenda,Tyler
Eppley and Sam Eppley each had a single with
Sam adding an rbi. The Tracers
scored two runs in the fifth inning to record
the victory. The Tracers are now
4-3 overall and 2-0 in the ORCC.
The baseball Tracers
traveled to Ohio Dominican on Sunday to play the panther JV
squad at Panther Valley. OUZ found itself behind 6-1 in the
fifth, but scored three runs in the seventh to narrow the score
to 7-4, which was the final . Derek Bragg pitched well, giving
up seven hits with five strikeouts. The Tracers played well on
defense
turning three double plays
and threw a runner out at third following a picture perfect
relay sequence with Tyler Eppley to Josh Davy to Steve Malenda,
completing the out. Malenda had three hits from the leadoff slot
with Bragg, Davy and Eppley each with a double and two singles.
Eppley and Davy each had two RBI'S.
The Tracers are 2-3 on the
season and are scheduled to host OSU-Lima on Saturday in a ORCC
conference doubleheader.
After a week off the Tracers returned
to the diamond and showed the effects of the layoff - dropping a
doubleheader to OSU-Mansfield 10-0 and 7-6. In the opener Brandon
Smith {1-1} was the victim of six Tracers errors that allowed all of
the Mansfield runs to be unearned and gave up only six hits. Steve
Malenda had three of the Tracers five hits. In the nightcap the
Tracers jumped to a 3-0 lead but could not hold on. Trailing 7-4 in
the seventh the Tracers scored two runs and had the tying run on
second when the game ended. Jimmy Hartmeyer took the loss{0-1}.Derek
Bragg, Josh Davy and Nate Stewart each had rbi doubles.
The
Tracers are now 2-2 and host OU-Lancaster Tuesday in an ORCC contest
on Checkush Field at 4:30.

The Tracers are 2-0 and host OSU- Mansfield next Thursday,
